Wedding favours - DIY giftboxes with Lady Pattern Paper.

DIY
You know when you look at a piece of paper and just know it will be perfect for something really special? Well the other day I was asked to make some samples for a wedding favour box – something different that could be used for a small gift, confetti or a little chocolate and this is what I came up with. These little folded pockets can be used for anything and with the Lady Pattern Paper they are perfect for a classic wedding.

Beautiful, elegant and soft.
Step 1 - For this size pocket/favour box I cut my patterned paper down to measure 9x9inches. I used a selection of the Antique White Lady Pattern Paper. The bigger the paper size, the bigger your pocket will be.
Step 2 - Fold your square paper in half to form a triangle. Use your bone folder to fold the paper neatly.
step 3 - Wth the straight edge at the bottom, align it on a line of your cutting matt. Then fold the bottom right hand corner upwards the left edge. Keep the line straight so that the top edge is parallel with the bottom fold.
step 4-  Fold the left bottom edge upwards to meet the right point. You are still keeping the edge straight.
step 5 - Fold the top flap down and burnish the edge to keep it down. Secure the folded pieces in place with a small hole and an eyelet, flowers, ribbon and diamanté.
Finish off your pockets with some wood wool inside or tissue paper. Now you are ready to add a small gift, chocolates or some confetti for your special day.

Let Lady Pattern Paper add a beautiful and elegant touch to your wedding day or next big celebration.

life and passion.

As i read Heidi Swapp's blog post today, tears were rolling down my face. It hit home!
as memory keepers we have a responsibility to tell the stories - the good, the bad the ugly. I have had my fair share of the not so pretty stories in life, have had more brushes  with death than i care to experience in one lifetime and i am sure there will be many more. for a long time, just like the Swapp family now, i have had a passion for those struggling with life in general and people affected by suicide. it's a silent struggle - a struggle people don't know about and very few will ever understand. they think they do, but in fact we never will truly understand it. I am so thankful that Heidi and her family have peace and hope in Jesus Christ their Savior...the Prince of Peace. people think they know, but in the end only GOD knows. One thing i klnow to be true is....we are all fighting our own battle...
in closing these wise words....Cory is not gone, he has just gone AHEAD!
for now...this is me at my happiest! teaching, interacting, inking, stamping and making a mess - making and keeping memories, telling stories. I truly love this stuff, and am thankful that God smiles upon me and blesses me with this life.
i am truly blessed and honoured to be able to do this! God is faithful!
Thank you to Annemarie for getting me in some decent photos - part of my journey - telling my story!

My jewellery board – fun to fix staple gun.

I did some sorting cleaning and decorating and making stuff! But not without a new toy I got from Chiswick! I got an electric staple gun! and I LOVE IT! So what did I make? Well I finally got to make something I wanted to tackle a long time ago – a little organizing project for my pretty necklaces amongst other things.
So I bought some amazing fabric and found an old canvas frame lurking around. So the entire project cost me only the fabric.
But I am freeking in love with this staple gun - man - it really is the simple things in life that make me happy - simply because they make crafting and home decor so much easier!
Check out my sxs tutorial over on the Chiswick blog...and pop one of these beauties in your shopping trolley - you will love it as much as I do!
Until later this week! Create something beautiful!

Altered Glitter Strips - Lady Pattern Paper.

I am always a bit apprehensive when I want to add loads of techniques to a project like a layout using texture paste and other art mediums – why you may ask? Well then wet stuff meets dry paper things happen – weird things happen to be honest! So much to my relief when I first tried stenciling with creative medium onto Lady Pattern Paper papers I was so chuffed that the weirdness wasn’t all that bad, sure it did its usual buckle but significantly less than some other patterned paper out there and dried perfectly. Another awesome reason why we love this lady!
For this layout I used the intense teal range of papers. I used them on my background as well as altered a strip to create some glitter elements for my layout – here’s how I created the layout and elements:

Step 1 -I used my creative medium texture paste through a Prima stencil directly on top of my papers and then left it to dry really well before finishing my layout.
step 2 - To create my glitter strips, I used the intense teal gingham sheet with the stripes on the back. Cut the paper strip to measures 3cm wide. Adhere strips of 16mm wide double sided tape to the white stripes on the paper strip.
Step 3 -  Remove the backing from every second strip of double sided tape and sprinkle with one colour of glitter like gold. Shake off the excess glitter and return the left-over glitter to the bottle.
step 4 -   Remove the backing from the rest of the double sided tape strips. Sprinkle these with a second colour of glitter. Shake off the excess and return the glitter to the container.
TIP: Always work on something that will enable you to return the glitter to its original container.
step 5 - Cut the strips into thin strips – this is your choice. I just used my scissors and cut the thin slithers of paper freehand. Then adhere the strips to your layout using a glue pen to create corners around your photos and elements.
This is a really fun way of adding some sparkle to your patterned papers, changing the look and feel, and getting the most out of your Basic Essentials range of papers. By using different techniques and products together with your Lady Pattern Paper Basic Essentials you can stretch them so much further!
I love how the gold, teal and mint striped paper works so well with all the different colours and elements on my layout! Adding that sparkle to my project – just what a girl needs!

Golden Moments With My Silhouette Printable Gold Foil.

This past month I think I have enjoyed my Silhouette even more – the thought of having so many different materials and products that can be cut using the machine is amazing. So after my t-shirt experience I wanted to try the Silhouette Printable Gold Foil. I haven’t had too much success printing onto the foil, mostly because my design is all wrong, so don’t despair a project is on its way just not now.

Instead after a flop or two I decided to just cut the foil and see what I could create. Obviously the more I cut the more it turned into some funky and gorgeous projects, but a quick and simple one was a layout title – create entirely out of a left-over piece after cutting something for a little framed piece of art I am working on.

Lady Pattern Paper Wild and Free layout.

So by now we have all gotten to know the LADY and her gorgeous range of Basic Essentials range of patterned paper. Well the thing is it really is a basic essentials range of paper, there’s everything and anything that you could possible need to throw together with any other international brand of paper and embellishments to get amazing results.
So this week I created this layout using some of my much loved scraps of papers – yes the Lady Pattern Paper range has been worked to the bone and I teamed it with some gorgeous patterned papers.
I am so pleased with how the colours from the Lady Pattern Paper (LPP) worked with the other paper and elements. It all is a match made in heaven. One of the things that I love about the paper is that you can die-cut it with ease using your Silhouette machine.

Now, I am not a great lover of titles – go figure – they are important. But when I used them they have to be big and cursive and not in your face, but rather blend into its surrounds and not take away attention from the photos.
For this layout I used this nice and cursive cut, but made it stand out a bit more against the background by adding a grey shadow on the outside of the words to highlight them. To create this quick and easy effect, add some grey VersaFine ink to a craft sheet and mist with water. Then pick up some ink with a small paintbrush and paint the thin lines. It’s amazing how a little thing like a shadow make the words pop and seem dimensional, when in fact they are flat and thin. The quality of cuts using the LPP is amazing – clean and fresh.

Other details on my layout include machine sewing and hand sewing. Because the LPP is thin and smooth, sewing is so easy and effortless. And my layouts are never complete without some sewing for texture and colour.
I am so excited to explore the possibilities using this amazing paper range. But above all I love the paper, colour and design of this range makes my international paper brands look just as good. Local quality at its best!

Create - inspiration for double page layouts.

Looking back at some of the layouts created over the last couple of months and realizing that i have not blogged about them all. This layout was one i did inspired by the stunning sketches of the Create Magazine and Scrapbook Generation team - Allison and Debbie. I have always loved sketches - a starting point for inspiration to help us create beautiful layouts using our everyday memories as visuals. This layout was part of a challenge to alter Project Life style cards - I used the card cut from a sheet of cards and added sewing to the lettering. This is a quick and easy way to add dimension, colour and texture - to spice up those cards and make them really fun and interactive.

I used a paper piercer to make the holes in the card following the design of the words and then used a matching colour thread to sew the wording.

On my background I added some stenciling, stamping and ink splats.
embosing using my cuttlebug and an embossing folder added some more texture to this layout.
So if you are feeling inspired and looking for even more inspiration, head on over to the Scrapbook Generation website and read the free online magazine filled with loads of inspiration with the most talented girls designing just for your viewing pleasure.
