prima gift box.

it's been a while. life has been hectic to say the least and i decided to take some time out...to do something for myself. this weekend was me time (well some of it at least). i am busy painting furniture and finally grabbed my dad's old chest of drawers i have been wanting to paint and started on that too. i was a bit lazy, or in a hurry and decided not to prime it like i usually do - because i know that a good foundation is half the work done already. so after giving it a first coat of paint and returning some hours later...i found that it naturally crackled all by it self. now where is that magic when you are trying to crackle something. go figure.
i also missed out posting about my latest little Prima fetish - flowers and pretty florals! yes i still love prima and their new embellishments makes for quick and easy scrapping. for more on the latest projects head on over to www.thewholesaler.biz/blog
anyways i am back and will be posting regularly again starting this week. not that i have made a dent in my workload - but i am slowly getting there and getting the priority projects ticked of my list! and finally my outbox emptied itself after not being able to send mails for a couple of days! grrr...
but we are thankful for the rain and the cooler weather. i will also give an update on stamp camp which happened last weekend. have a stunning weekend!

white on white challenge at scrap africa.

it's time for another challenge over at scrap Africa. this month we challenge you to do an all white or mostly white layout or card or altered item. i love this. i think i fell in love with white on white when my DH made me a framed poem in all white back in 2005. he worked day and night on this project to the point that i thought he was doing something behind my back...which he was. i cherish the poem he wrote himself and scrapped it, complete with white embossing, embellishments and accents. so special!please hop on over to scrap Africa as we introduce some talented new designers to the group with some fabulous samples. here's what i did...
my layout started with a background made of strips of patterned papers for another layout. then i covered the entire layout using gesso in lumps and bumps to add loads of texture and to cover the colour. i did a white on white textured heart last year and it finally found a home. i used most of my vintage buttons including some glass buttons and stitched them to a card stock heart.
a white doily and a stamped image are the only decorative elements on the right hand side. my photo was a happy accident that didn't quite make my photo wall. but i am happy to use it.
some left over stamped elements from a previous layout sewn to the background.
what will you do with all those white elements in your stash? come play along with us, there are some awesome prizes up for grab. happy monday!

2013 calendar + Christmas...unreal.

yesterday we had a full scrapbook mini-event at scrapbook den making a calendar for 2013. i have to admit that i am not at all crazy about making or designing minis. they are time consuming and a lot of work. so anyone who doesn't appreciate the effort that goes into just the actual figuring out of all the little details has definitely not designed one themselves. it was all worth it though. i loved how it turned out in spite of having re-done a single month (march - the problem child) four times. not three times but a total of four times. until i grabbed some watercolour paper and distress stains and that's when the magic happened and i loved it. i even got my friend Cathy to play and make a mess - she and Theresa and embraced the whole unpredictable(ness) nervously but they were stars! i added a lot of the things that i love: old postage stamps, quotes, inks, old book paper and stuff. a mish mash of goodies to ring in the new year. we did do a few extra kits so to order a kit contact

i can hardly believe the year is heading to a close. and if you still need some time to bloom with creativity and get some Christmas scrapping done hopefully you have booked for this event which promises to be filled with loads of Christmas goodness and inspiration. hope you are having a wonderful weekend and a creative week ahead!

prima rosarian packs a punch on layouts.

i love red. and when i first saw the new Rosarian range of papers imported and distributed by The Wholesaler i immediately fell in love. i love the boldness of it - it says don't mess with me. so what better way than to create a layout for a strong little lade with loads of self-confidence.
die-cut butterflies using the cuttlebug and one of the best ever dies made by them
(my honest opinion)
beautiful wooden buttons - i love how classy and functional they are on projects
and some pretty handmade paper flowers - quick and easy

boofle cards to celebrate world cardmaking day.

happy world cardmaking day everyone! lucky for me i made these cards this past week so have something to celebrate with today.how special that we have an entire day to celebrate making cards for friends and family. so to celebrate here are my Boofle cards made for The Wholesaler to celebrate them importing the beautiful range of DoCrafts papers, stamps and other crafting goodies. I have fallen in love with this Boofle guy - he is just so cute. I used a single stamp with three different techniques to achieve three different looks.
 first up....shadow stamping.
i love how the Mr Cool set has a shadow stamp included and so i used a Brilliance Pearlescent ink for my shadow giving it a beautiful shimmer. the outline was overstamped in black ink.
to add some texture to his nose i used dimensional glaze and microbeads - just love the look.
second .... i used masking to get my background effect. a really really old technique but still a favourite.
i combined a script Prima stamp with some inks to achieve the look behind Boofle.
third...simply stamped and then coloured in using a combination of 2 colours of Artiste Brush Markers. love how versatile those markers are.
and once again i re-stamped the image onto old book paper and cut out the nose portion and adhered it to the colored image for some dimension.
i hope you had a wonderful day making cards or just being creative! until next time, thanks for popping in  and leaving some love - always appreciate your visit. Blessings!

scrap africa layout.

hi everyone - hope you are having a wonderful week so far. It's time for another sketch over at scrap Africa and i loved working with this one. i combined various patterned papers together for a fun and boyish look. i don't have many (almost no) photos of my sister in law so this was a nice surprise to find this beauty - although it was taken a few years ago.
here's the original sketch. remember that when you play along you can win some awesome goodies from our generous sponsors. yip - it really is that simple. play along link us to your layout and win!
i used a Boofle image - fuzzy cut around the edges of the car and then used some glaze on his little scarf. i love Boofle - there i have come clean.
some buttons, rub-ons and light bulb from the new prima ranges.
and for my circle element i did my journaling and punched a circle then sewed it onto my layout.
please head over to scrap Africa and play along with us - and especially so if you are a local SA girl - we love your talent and want to see more of it! have an awesome week!
