Quick Valentines mini-album using playing cards, Simple Stories & Crate paper scraps.

it's that crazy time of the year again so soon after Christmas and new year where the commercial and fake side of life kicks in - where flowers and chocolates are way over priced and everyone thinks they have to show love with something red and expensive instead of something real and from the heart. i made this little mini album last year and never sort of finished it - yes i have issues with mini albums and finishing them off - seems like a lot of work for little reward (in my opinion). anyways, so i made this last year. i used playing cards as the base for my pages and covered them with scraps of Simple Stories and Crate papers, and then added some webster's quote cards and some Kaisercraft pearls, the odd strip of washi tape and sticker and that was about it.
for my cover i added this beautiful epoxy heart sticker - remember those from a million years ago...and to this day i love it! a simple concertina fold was made using grey and white simple stories stripe paper and the pages where then adhered to them to create the view you see below - colourful and happy. oh i forgot the point i was making way in the beginning of this post - i have this thing, if you cant show someone you love them everyday, then why bother on a single specific day of the year? only my opinion...so no chocolates or fancy gifts or dinners for my DH...only an old mini made a year ago, fileld with sentiment and real stuff!
the pages are decorated simply and without fuss
beautiful quotes = real
a map, buttons, pearls and a flower or two
a close up of the pages as they sit inside the cover
some sewing this time before hand...i normally sew through everything and then cover all evidence
and a peek at the washi tape under the red heart
something simple and real - uncomplicated like my love for him - honest, true, faithful,
flawed and non-judgmental...
hope you have a wonderful valentines day!

2013 calendar + Christmas...unreal.

yesterday we had a full scrapbook mini-event at scrapbook den making a calendar for 2013. i have to admit that i am not at all crazy about making or designing minis. they are time consuming and a lot of work. so anyone who doesn't appreciate the effort that goes into just the actual figuring out of all the little details has definitely not designed one themselves. it was all worth it though. i loved how it turned out in spite of having re-done a single month (march - the problem child) four times. not three times but a total of four times. until i grabbed some watercolour paper and distress stains and that's when the magic happened and i loved it. i even got my friend Cathy to play and make a mess - she and Theresa and embraced the whole unpredictable(ness) nervously but they were stars! i added a lot of the things that i love: old postage stamps, quotes, inks, old book paper and stuff. a mish mash of goodies to ring in the new year. we did do a few extra kits so to order a kit contact

i can hardly believe the year is heading to a close. and if you still need some time to bloom with creativity and get some Christmas scrapping done hopefully you have booked for this event which promises to be filled with loads of Christmas goodness and inspiration. hope you are having a wonderful weekend and a creative week ahead!

a quick share

This is a mini-album I made for a design team call but never got to finish the layouts ... so that was that! I actually enjoyed making this one - you see I am after all not really a mini-album fan. They are hard work and can take up a lot of time and supplies - it just never seems to end.
The inside consists of paper, fabric, cardstock, acetate, acrylic and felt. I used some left over fabric and cut my own pages using my pinking shears. The edges a re cut with my silhouette machine. The front cover is a piece of acrylic with rub-ons and a Tim Holtz game spinner, which then show through onto the rest of the page created on cardboard.
Supplies: Patterned paper & cardstock Prima & Kaisercraft. Rub-ons, stickers 7Gypsies. Grungeboard Tim Holtz. Distress ink Ranger Industries. Other Acetate, fabric, acrylic, cardboard, glitter, double sided tape.
PS. I have finished the first layer of my little drawers. I am pleased! I stuck to my true colours and used products and supplies that are my signature - OFF CUTS! I love the look and will post photos later. The 2nd layer...I as hoping that if I had 48 friends who each make me an inchie...mmmm. back to the drawing board! Have a fabulous day!

grunge mini-album

Ok..so here's the front of my now totally decorated grunge mini-album as done in T!m Holtz class on Friday. I went with the word blessed on the front - because I am blessed. The inside is not done yet but, the inner circle has very conveniently let us know what we can use it for. You unfortunately will have to wait and see. I have to confess that I am not a mini fan anymore. They are hard work and I often loose interest just before I am done and then it gets files just to be pulled apart at a later stage. I have however made my share of these little gems - but I think I find it frustrating because they tend to accumulate much faster than what i can find space for them to come into their own. But as for this little gem ...i will and treasure it forever! It does after all hold loads of memories!

close-ups of the front of my mini-album. I'm not naturally drawn to orange and yellow. These two colours are meant for nature - autumn leaves and sunflowers and nothing else. But strangely enough the orange worked well with the red and it was nice working with different colours other than my normal blues and browns. I simply adore and love all the metals that we have finally gotten our hands on.
Tomorrow I will share some special layouts with you that I really enjoyed doing...
