Vintage ATC cards with you
If you are a paper crafter then i am sure you are a hoarder right? you say what if, and one day really a lot don't you? yes you know I am right!
So todays project is one of those one day's....
years ago when i had more time on my hands i started a set of ATC cards. They were (are) really pretty and vintage looking but needed something to finish them off and a home. So when I was cleaning up the studio last week I found them in a packet all ready and waiting to be finished...and here they are
I used some of the amazing Couture Creations dies to dress them up and finally finish them off - and i love how the die-cuts just adds enough of a something different
 I used this cute little Rocking Horse | CO723518 from the Secret Treasures range. I cut it out of a smooth thick brown cardstock and inked the edges in white Brilliance pigment ink to soften the edges a bit and add a worn vintage look to it. Once the ink was dry and I adhered it to my ATC card I added a layer of dimensional glaze and left it to dry overnight.
For my next card I used the gorgeous Paddington Street Lamp – CO723740
from the Metricon Collection as well as the Art Deco Border – CO723738 from the same collection.
 I cut the Paddington lamp out of white cardstock and then separated the cut so that i had two pieces to work with. I coloured them separately using dark brown ink and left them to dry. The scroll part of the die was adhered to my other ATC card and dressed up simply with a couple of adhesive diamante.


I adhered the light part to my third ATC card with a halved portion of the Art deco border I stapled to the top of the card. Once the lamp part was set and well glued down I added some "Sepia" dimensional accents inside and left it to dry. Once it was dry it gave the look of old stained glass.
 I think this Art deco border die must be one of my favourite and most versatile dies ever!

bling on reality at The Wholesaler.

American crafts
so it's back to reality for us after a week of sun and bliss in the most gorgeous part of our country, the Eastern Cape. From JBay we drove about an hour to a place called Eerste rivier (first river). we had no reception, no internet - but we had peace, the blue blue ocean and we had an amazing time of creativity! it was heaven!

There’s nothing like a little bling on a crafting project. It’s not just only the adults that love glitter and shiny goodies but give a little girl a bit of glitter and she will smile for an entire day. So given the chance to work with lots of bling on some projects indeed brought a big smile to my face.


Good Stuff ATC Card
For a quick ATC [Artist Trading Card] I used the Cuttlebug Butterfly die and cut it out of packaging cardstock that is thick and sturdy with a white colouring. I adhered the butterfly to a base printed image using Tombow Mono Multi Adhesive for a string bond. The butterfly die-cut is covered with a layer of Anita’s 3D glaze and then immediately sprinkled with gold glitter. I leave the glaze to dry for a couple of minutes and then shake off the excess glitter before decorating the ATC.

TIP
I adhere the die-cut to my project first and let it dry and settle, before I add the glaze and the glitter layer. If you add the glaze and glitter while the die-cut is loose it will curl and buckle and the glaze will run off of the die-cut. Remember that it is worth while taking your time when working with the glaze to avoid accidentally getting some glaze on the rest of your project

Quick adhesive alternatives for glitter and microbeads
There are various ways of adhering glitter and microbeads to a project, the following is what I use
·         Purple Turtle Double Sided Tape
·         Anita’s 3D glaze
·         Super Sticky Double Sided Tape
·         Glue Dots
I love the convenience of the American Crafts Glitter Tapes - quick and easy to use and the colours are amazing
Cherish Butterfly Card
I used a combination of AC Glitter Tapes to create a custom accent for a card. I used strips of different colours of tapes and adhered them flush against each other to a piece of plain cardstock. I then used the Cuttlebug and Butterfly die to cut out a butterfly from the multi-coloured glitter paper. To tone down the brightness of the glitter and create dimension I used the same die-cut butterfly in vellum and adhered it using glitter brads to the base butterfly. I attached the glitter butterfly to a stamped base coloured using some Crystalina glitter glue on selected areas. Finally I added some microbeads using Anita’s 3D glaze for more colour, texture and dimension.

birds, eggs and bee's wax on a project.

so i am currently trying to work my way through the pile of half-done, almost-done, just about-done projects and class samples. i am getting there. the problem is, whenever i have so much to do and obligations to fulfill i tend to wanna paint, decorate, move and sort stuff around the house. anyone else suffer from that? in between painting a dining room set (table and 6 chairs) for a friend (a lot more work than i have envisioned) i managed to photograph this little bird atc frame that i did a while back. this project also just happened to be a lets make something else cause' the thing i am working on isn't working kind of thing. i am pleased with how it turned out though. so here it is...
the images are printed on Epson archival matt paper and covered with layers of bee's wax with a few simple decorations.
recycled tags from another project that i am also trying to finish off and will share later. and guess what - i actually have a before and after photo of that project. something that i struggle with. i am always in such a hurry to get started that i tend to forget to take before pics. i am trying to get better at it though.
the egg sticker is one of my favourite images. the colours fade to something dreamy when layers of wax are added.

Artist Trading Cards - Luscious Lime swap

Debbie from our RSA (Rubberstamping South Africa) group recently hosted a Luscious Lime ATC swap. These are my two cards. The first is an image from Crafty Indivisuals stamped with green Pallette ink onto glossy white cardstock. The strip along the edge is done with glitter.


The second card was done for every one in the swap as a RAK (Random Act of Kindness). I used some lovely lime serviettes on acetate. The stamped image is from BLine designs and a single diamante finishes it off.

Painfully slow internet and some ATCs

Our Internet has been painfully slow for over a week now. Funny how the rest of the world especially the USA has such quick Internet access and unlimited it seems. Logging onto the overseas blogs are painful for us here in Africa - they take ages to download and then at the end of the month you pay your a.... off for your Internet subscription! I hope this will soon change for the better - maybe then updating my blog will be a pleasure instead of a chore. This is not always the case - some months and weeks our connection is so fast and you download 1MB a second - FRIGHTENING when it comes to billing time! but a pleasure for blogging! Now why would that be I ask you??
Anyhow..after a really tough week things seem to let up a lot with a great offer just to get worse!! But that's a story for another day!
Here are some Artist Trading Cards I made ages ago. The theme for the swap was 'Winged Things' and these were just some of my then attempts!
I love working with alcohol inks. This background happened by pure luck or mistake. I spilled some alcohol inks onto old book paper and the result was really cool. I stamped the images onto clear tacky plastic, added a few silver leafing flakes to the sticky side and covered the background with it. Pretty easy but really effective.


I love ATCs as you can simply experiment on a small scale and chuck the flops and keep what you like - or simply give them to someone who will not know any better!

Bird ATCs

This has been one of my favourite ATC swaps ever. The colours suited me perfectly and I have loads of un-used bird stamps in my collection. The biggest task was to decide which stamp to use, or to actually purchase another one. Yes I know - there's a fine line between mental illness and crazy, and I am on the edge when it comes to stamps.
The top card is my attempt featuring my signature blue coloured book paper as Benice calls it (smiley face here), printed egg paper scanned from one of my mom's bird books (shhhh) and one of my favourite Hero Arts stamps the branch. The title = Bird House.
I am totally in love with my set of ATCs - thanks to the girls who participated and to KIM for hosting it.
