Festive Season door plaque with an old book cover.

I love creating festive elements to display around the house – don’t get
me wrong – i don’t go overboard, but i love subtle hints. So with the
holidays looming I have started my festive season creative spree. I hope
you are on track with your too…
I created a little door plaque using a recycled book cover. I simply tore off the cover off of an old book, primed the surface with Gesso and added loads of different inks for color.

For my centre focal point I used a combination of die-cut and punched
layers. I wanted to use something not too traditional so I opted for
this gorgeous butterfly punch from Chiswick. The butterfly was glittered
and then layered on top of a die-cut doily and snowflake.
The layers are separated with some soft grey fibers and the rest of the plaque decorated using stamped images, pearls and diamante for that sparkly festive look.
Step 1 - Punch the butterfly into a scrap piece of white cardstock. Remember the butterfly only will punch out of your paper.
Step 2
Use a circle punch and then punch around the butterfly shape. Use 2 different colours of ink to colour the circle and leave it to dry thoroughly.

Step 3
On the back of the circle element, add a small piece of double sided tape. Make sure that the tape is wide enough to cover the butterfly cut out. DO NOT remove the back protective part of the tape.

Step 4
Turn over the circle element to reveal the butterfly – the butterfly will now be sticky on the inside.
Sprinkle gold glitter on top of the sticky side and press down to make sure it sticks really well. Shake off the excess glitter and return it to the container.

Use the silver Pearlescent ink pad and stamp a Christmas sentiment onto
some scrap papers. Punch the sentiment out using a circle punch and
adhere it randomly across the plaque. Add finishing touches as desired.
Now you can use any of your craft supplies to turn ordinary things into
festive touches for your home – and don’t forget those little gifts for
the neighbors – something fun that can be enjoyed the entire season!
