Colour Your Burlap Flowers In A Few Easy Steps.

These beautiful burlap flowers from Petaloo have become my absolute favourites. The texture and variety is amazing and the fact that I can personalize them to suit my project perfectly is a bonus. Today I am showing you how to combine your inks and flowers and create something truly unique in a few easy steps. All you need is a few minutes to customize the beautiful petals in something truly unique.
I wanted to add more interest to my Petaloo burlap flowers and used my trusty VersaMagic ink pads to add colour and to combine different shades for loads of interest before adding them to my card.
Step 1 - Select the colours that you want to use to colour your flowers with. I used the versatile VersaMagic ink pads.
Step 2 - Add some Turquoise Gem ink onto a palette. TIP: I use the plastic packaging from my Couture Creations dies – they work really well and can be thrown away without batting an eyelid. Press the ink pad onto the palette lightly to transfer the ink.
Step 3 - Mist the ink with water. Use a paintbrush to mix the ink and water and then paint the white burlap flowers until the entire flower is covered in colour.
Step 4 - Add Pink Petunia ink to your palette – use a clean palette and brush. Select one of the pink texture elements burlap flowers – it is already pink but we are going to add some more interest by adding a different pink colour to it.
Step 5 - Paint the lighter areas of the pink flower with the dirty rose pink ink. This will give you a flower that is shaded in two different colours of pink giving you more interest and making the texture pop even more.
Step 6 - You are now ready to adhere your coloured burlap flowers to your card or layout. I love these flowers for their gorgeous textures and interest, and making my own colours to match my project is such a bonus.

Vintage Baby card - Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko.

I am an ink junky by heart! So whenever I get a new set of inks I try and put it through the test and see how it works on all my favorite mediums. For this vintage baby card I tried the MementoLuxe inks on different mediums to see how they work and I love the outcome. I also added some irRESISTible accents to an embossed card and love how I can enhance my embossing folders with this stunning medium in a few easy steps.
For more information and a sxs of how I created my card, head on over to the Imagine Crafts blog here
I used my MementoLuxe inks to color my chipboard and seam binding ribbon, as well as edges the sides of my card with great success. This ink loves all types of surfaces.

Chiswick - Pearlescent embossed accents.

From the very first time i saw the magic of heat embossing i was hooked. i can also recall the facial expressions of people who know for the very first time see it - it really is magical. So what's a girl to do with a delicate die-cut - well add some more magic is the natural choice! So what would be more perfect than a nice Pearlescent effect topped with heat embossing. I got to work with the Chiswick range of Pearlescent ink pads to colour some elements and to stamp with - and i love the outcome! so here's what i did with my layout and technique elements...
I first cut my element out of white smooth American Crafts cardstock - i prefer this cardstock because it cuts nicely especially with delicate dies like the one i used and takes ink well because of it's smooth surface. Once the ink was applied it stayed wet long enough for me to add clear embossing powder and heat set it using my Chiswick heat gun. i simply love the look - see how the pearly effect shows through the embossing?

I added some delicate thin silver thread underneath my flowers - i combined some cream and soft blue flowers with the denim blue Chiswick flowers to create a nice mix between texture, shape and colour.
I used the same Pearlescent ink pad to stamp some themed images directly onto my background cardstock - to make sure the ink dries really well i heat set it using my heat gun. A quick blast will ensure the ink is dry and prevent smudges.
I used some of the lovely chipboard stickers out of the Chiswick range - to add some interest i added some folds to it - really just crumpling it up and then adhering it to still show the folds.
and here's how i created my coloured die-cut accent for my layout
Step 1
Die-cut the element out of white smooth cardstock. Pick the colour of your ink you want to add to the element.
Step 2
Turn over the ink pad and press the ink repeatedly onto the die-cut until it is fully covered in colour. Do not drag the ink pad to avoid it from being damaged.
Step 3
Add a layer of clear Zing embossing powder over the wet Pearlescent ink and shake off the excess. Heat set the embossing powder until it turns shiny and is set. Leave the powder to cool down.
Tip - The golden rule to most embossing powders is, when it turns shiny it is done. So when you see that all the powder is shiny you know that you have heated it enough.
Step 4
You element is now ready to be adhered to your layout using a thin layer of Tombow Mono Multi adhesive. I love how the Pearlescent silver of the ink pad peaks out from underneath the clear embossing powder - such an awesome effect!

scrap Africa sketch #26 - single page layout.

Hello there - it's time for another sketch challenge over at Scrap Africa. Denise created this wonderful sketch and i loved working with it.it's a wonderful sketch that is versatile and can be whatever it is you need to get your creative juices flowing. i used my favourite Mister Huey inks to add colour to my background and then worked onto that to create my layout...
I used some Docrafts Madame Payraud patterned papers under my photo and together with some washi tape on the left edge. A Marion Smith doily stamped image was cut in half and used with some beautiful Petaloo flowers for a pop of colour.
i found a matching Prima Butterfly with just the right look and enough bling and glitter to make a statement.
some stenciling in the background...
and some hand sewn detail
the other half of my stamped doily was used in the opposite corner for repetition
i hope you will play along with us...you could win some awesome goodies and we would love to see what you come up with - wishing you a wonderful and creative scrapping week!

Petaloo Botanica Flowers Handmade Sweetie Jar

Have you laid your hands on this amazing range of new Petaloo blooms yet? Well let me tell you, there are flowers and there is something so beautiful it makes your heart flutter and skip a beat. Yes I have said this many times about scrapbooking products – but these are totally different. They are soft, delicate and life like! Too gorgeous for words actually – they are best touched and experienced for yourself. So this week I used them turn a little recycled jar into a sweet and delicate sweetie jar. I covered the base of the jar in some pretty Prima patterned paper using the amazing this to that sticky double sided tape. I only needed a few strips of this take to make it stick perfectly and permanently – really amazing stuff.
I then added some Petaloo Botanica flowers to the front of the jar. I grouped the flowers until I was happy with the look, and then adhered them using my Tombow Mono Multi adhesive. I added small drops of Tombow and let them dry to make it really tacky and then adhered the blooms while applying some pressure. This makes them set perfectly and permanently.  Lastly I inserted some more mini Botanica blooms where there were open spaces to fill in some gaps which gave me a really dense covering of beautiful blooms. I absolutely loved how it turned out.
The best thing is that even if I don’t want to use it as a sweetie jar anymore, I can simply remove the lid and use it as a pencil holder, pretty ear bud holder in the bathroom or anything else my mind can dream up – it really is that pretty all thanks to those beautiful blooming beauties from Petaloo.

I hope you have a blooming and creative day filled with buds.

form meets function - petaloo floral recycled journal

I am a list maker. I am always writing things down and making lists of things to do, buy or ideas. So this also means I have loads of notebooks all around the house, in my bag, next to my bed and in the car. So naturally when I have the chance to make a cute little notebook using left-overs and pretty stuff then I jump at the chance. I also like using things that I can repurpose into a functional item.
For my notebook I wanted to make a pretty cover using a few supplies, but mainly the pretty Petaloo flowers. I particular favour the jewelled Florettes and Gypsies in the range. The flowers are beautiful and delicate with amazing colour – but not too bulky for my style of scrapping. I like the fact that even when I use them on my layouts they can still comfortably fit into the page protectors without making my albums bulge at the seams.

But back to my little notebook.
I used an old book to create my cover. I simply tore off the existing cover from the book and used my big guillotine to cut off the spine part and also trimmed down the top and bottom edge for a slightly smaller cover.

I now have 2 parts – a front and back cover. I used ordinary white cardstock or thin paper for the inside pages. I cut them slightly smaller than the outside covers and then punched a set of holes into the pages using an ordinary office hole punch. For my cover I used the inside punched holes as a guide and drew guide circles on the inside of the covers, and then punched the holes using my crop-o-dile. The cover was decorated using a Celebr8 oval frame that I embossed using AC embossing powder. I inserted a printed vintage photo inside the frame and then finished off the bottom of the frame using a combination of the Jewelled Florettes and Jewelled Gypsies from Petaloo.
These pretty flowers are indeed a basic scrapbooking necessity – they are one of those products that can turn something simple into something spectacular in a few easy steps. A must have for your basic stash and your next pretty project. There are loads of designs and colours available in the Jewelled range – perfect for all your crafty needs.
