around here...

Around here things have been hectic, crazy, scary but mostly exciting.Since the last time traveling around the country teaching 300 odd ladies at Scrapbook Studios event things have been interesting around here. I was slapped yet another LOW blow by the industry, which turns out to be the biggest ever blessing by God. You know the feeling when God shuts a door HE alone opens an even bigger one! Well there you have it! I am blessed even more than I can ask or dream of....well I can dream bigger and so i am doing just that!

One of those exciting things is the release of the new Lady Pattern Paper papers in Egyptian Gold [Limited Edition] and Dazzling Blue [indeed]. I asked Bernie for a navy but what she gave us is the prettiest ever blue that is really versatile, and maybe one day she will do a navy but for NOW i am in love! And those gold hearts, well have my heart!
I was excited to photograph and play with these papers before release day and am always so honorued and excited to a part of the process.
How gorgeous are these golds? Best I stock up on some more before they are all sold out!

Then there is this that I am really excited about...but you will have to wait just a little longer for the reveal!

and then there is the Stencil Girl Christmas in July Bloghop that is happening tomorrow...so watch this space and hop along as you can be a winner too! Until later this weekend....
I am off to have a great teaching weekend filled with loads of creativity!

Kraft Essentials Double Page Layout.

What does Kraft Essentials, travel paper and Spar have in common? Well if you live in Gauteng then it all comes together in a double page layout about a horse. Yes strange but true, and it just goes to show how versatile the Lady Pattern Paper range is.
For this double page layout was inspired by the beautiful photos of Leo and Julianna. I drew inspiration from the purple and blue in the photos to use as my accent colour on the layout. For the rest it was a natural colour selection in the Kraft Essentials paper and then I found this gorgeous travel paper that worked perfectly in colour, pattern and texture. All of these elements together with a few embellishments I found at Spar and you have a gorgeous layout with interesting elements.
The kraft paper with blue stars on not only worked perfectly with my colour scheme but the tiny star pattern also compliments the theme and message of the layout. A few extra elements like the cut out sentiment strip sits perfectly on top of the different patterned papers adding another dimension.
The cute little paper clip elements were found at our local Spar. How funky are they? And perfect to add to any project for that extra pizzazz factor.
As part of my title, I punched a circle out of scrap paper, added a “L” rub-on and then dressed it up by adding a stamped paint circles and pencil scribbles all around it. This is such a simple but effective way to use up those older rub-ons in your stash.
To create flow I added paint splats in different colours to make all the patterned papers seem like one. The paint splats are the unifying element that tells your eye everything works together as a whole. A nifty little trick for unifying elements.
Another little element from Spar is this post it note that I altered by adding some stamped wording, sewing and embellishments.
Stencilling, stamping and buttons finish off my layout perfectly – adding some dimension and colour but not distracting too much from the photos.

And that’s how you can use a whole bunch of different elements in a supporting act together on your double page layout with the gorgeous Kraft Essentials paper from Lady Pattern Paper.

Lady Pattern Paper Project Life Layout

On the 7th May we had a lovely scrapping day featuring the beautiful Lady Pattern Paper papers. And what better way to celebrate such a special day than to create a project life style layout, adding as much photos onto a page as I possibly can or want to, and of course featuring some gorgeous Lady Pattern Paper papers.

To create some cards for my pockets I used Lady Pattern Paper and added some sentiments to the paper to make my own Project Life style cards with a handmade twist of course.
I love the simplicity of project life – it enables me to add lots of photos, capturing a special event with creative details, and I can add my own spin to it just the way I like it. And best of all I can use my Lady Pattern Paper papers to add those creative elements – everything I love all in one.

Mom’s Single Page Layout – With Love…

If you are planning preserve the memory of this year’s Mother’s Day, why not make a beautiful single page layout and pop it into a frame – a perfect reminder of the one who loves you unconditionally.
My inspiration for this layout was the beautiful scalloped tag I used on my layout. To find matching papers and elements was not difficult at all, and the range of Lady Pattern Paper papers worked perfectly.
I wanted a simple layout and made the papers the supporting stars to my photos. So I decided to punch the papers into a decorative edge using a border punch.
My photo was matted onto a Kraft patterned paper that acted as my neutral colour, and the blue and red my accents.
Use two different paper colours and designs to punch with a decorative punch.
I used this beautiful lace punch – and with stunning effects combined the teal and red paper by repeating the same pattern.
My photo was matted onto plain cardstock, and then a larger Kraft paper matt was used to house the scalloped tag I wanted to use. I also added torn strips of washi tape before adhering my photo.
To finish off my layout I added additional stamped wording, embellishments, tags, enamel dots and ink splats.
And all I have to do is pop my single page layout it into a frame and have a perfectly preserved memory of my special Mom.

Card & Layout | Butterfly Card Inspired By A Layout

Inspiration is everywhere, and with Lady Pattern Paper having a cardmaking competition, I can’t help myself but feel the urge to make some more cards. I love making cards because they offer me a creative outlet that is not so time consuming as a layout or canvas. So today I am sharing a layout and a card – the card was purely inspired by the butterfly on the layout and of course I had to use the beautiful butterfly paper.
The butterfly design was inspired by the butterfly flair used on my layout. The other elements were inspired by the Lady Pattern Paper papers used for matting my photo and for the detailed strips on the background.

step 1 - Select the 2 patterned papers you want to use as your background.
step 2 - Adhere the 2 pieces overlapping each other using double sided tape.
step 3 - Using some of my left-overs from last week’s layout, I cut two squares. One with paint details on it and a second larger matt using the beautiful Kraft dot paper.
step 4 - Adhere the background piece to a folded card front. Adhere the pink paint matted piece to the centre of your card. Add some paint splats to the background for added interest.
step 5 - Stamp and colour a butterfly image using matching colours.
step 6 -Add a layer of dimensional glaze to the butterfly.
step 7 - Lightly sprinkle the butterfly with the wet glaze with gold glitter. Leave the glaze to dry and shake off the excess glitter.
I finished off my card with some cut circles, diamanté, and sewing around the outer edge.

DIY Easter | Décor, Blooms and Printables.

As part of my Easter décor, I am creating vignettes combined with beautiful delicate blooms and some gilded Easter eggs. The combination of elements together makes for a pretty visual around the home celebrating the festivities.
bought a blossom sprig from a florist and added my own paper blooms in between them to make a pretty visual. I like combining paper with other elements for a truly unique look. As part of the look, I also designed a pretty Easter wreath that you can download and print for free as part of your home décor. I added mine to a simple sale frame bought from Mr Price – I keep on recycling my frame with different printables around my home.

step 1 - Freehand cut some circles out of pattered paper. You can use a circle punch as well or even a die-cut.
step 2 - Cut a swirl into the circles. I just eyeball them and cut them freehand.
step 3 - Use a quilling tool and start rolling your flower from the outside inward to the inside.
step 4 - Adhere your paper blooms to the blossom twig using a hot glue gun. Careful not to burn your fingers while adhering them.

Lady Pattern Paper | Anatomy Of A Single Page Scrapbook Layout.

By now the entire scrapping and card making community is abuzz with the new range of Lady Pattern Paper Kraft Essentials. They are simply amazing and I am so chuffed to get to work with this amazing range – classy, elegant and neutral. Everything a girl could want!
I created this fun and simplistic single page layout to feature the Kraft paper as a background. I worked straight onto what-must-be-my-favourite-design-ever! Here’s a step x step Anatomy of the layout and how I created it.
step 1 - Apply a generous amount of Gesso to the background using a pallet knife. Let the Gesso dry completely or use a heat gun to speed up the process.
step 2 - Use a bright pink acrylic paint and add a layer of paint over the Gesso. Leave the paint to dry.
step 3 - Make sure you spread the paint out to a thin even layer using your palette knife. Do not cover the entire layer of Gesso.
step 4 - Once the paint is dry, use a dark brown ink and stencil a pattern onto the background.
step 5 - Use a small paintbrush and watercolours and add splats to the background.
step 6 - Select another pattern (copper dot) and cut a corner off the page. Adhere to the top left hand corner. Trim the edge using one of the barcode strip.
step 7 - Select your photo, title and other elements you want to use on your layout. Position them until you are happy with the look and then adhere them in place.
Embellish to finish off your layout.  And there you have a stunning and creative single page scrapbook layout using the beautiful new Kraft Essentials range from Lady Pattern Paper.

Woven Easter Basket – Easy Step by Step.

If you have kids around Easter than you might want to keep them busy right? Well today we have a super simple woven Easter basket that the kids can help you make for your Easter table. Fill them with treats and chocolates and add a name tag.
Head on over to the Lady Pattern Paper blog for the full step x step.
how's your preparation for the Easter hunt going?

Monochromatic – Shades of blue layout.

If you haven’t seen the new Lady Pattern Paper Oh my word! sticker sheets yet, then you are in for a treat. I think one of my favourites is the Baby Boy sticker sheet with its cute little whale (yeah I was sold immediately). But I was even more excited when I started creating with them. At such an amazing price tag I couldn’t help but almost use the entire sticker sheet on a layout and not even feel guilty for doing so.
I opted to create a beautiful monochromatic layout to match my stickers and found not only my Lady Pattern Paper scraps useful but some other scraps too.

Monochromatic colours are all the colours (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue. Monochromatic colour schemes are derived from a single base hue and extended using its shades, tones and tints

I  like matting my stickers to make them look ‘more’ if that even makes sense. So I start off by matting them.
Remove the sticker from the sticker sheet and adhere them to Lady Pattern Paper scrap bits of paper.

Freehand trim around the sticker to leave a coloured border.
Cut some of the little images out of the sticker and use them directly onto your layout or card. TIP: Ink the edges to hide cutting marks.
Shades Of Blue Layout - Baby Boy Sticker

I added my matted stickers and cut out bits to my layout and added finishing touches like the sewn crosses and lines to them. I like dressing up my stickers a bit to help them support my theme better. Adding little details to stickers will give you dimension and texture to an otherwise plain and flat sticker elemen

Creating a shades of blue layout with Lady Pattern Paper sticker sheets and papers is quick and simple.

How to dress up your stickers

  • Matt your stickers on patterned paper or cardstock
  • Ink the edges of your stickers
  • Add sewing details like crosses and lines to your stickers
  • Emboss your stickers for a fun textured look
  • Add diamanté, pearls and buttons to your stickers to dress them up
  • Add a layer of glitter glue or dimensional glaze to your stickers
